Major Pros and Cons of Saltwater Pools

July 28, 2020 By Jason

There’s no doubt starting to heat up, more and more people are looking for ways to enjoy their days at the pool. If you have thought about putting a pool on your property chances are good you have to weigh the options of either installing a chlorine or salt water pool. Saltwater pools have been a major trend for quite some time and they’re only continuing to get more and more popular.

If you are thinking about installing a saltwater pool on your property, here are the major pros and cons then you should be aware of and consider.

Pros of saltwater pools

With a saltwater pool system, pool maintenance becomes a lot easier. While saltwater pools do still require some amounts of chlorine, it is far reduced compared to pools that depend on chlorine to keep the water safe. Within saltwater pools, the salt sells in the water produce any chlorine that is needed, however you will have to be able to monitor those chlorine levels to ensure that everything is working as it should be. On top of that, cleaning your saltwater pool only has to take place about once a year, where you drain the pool, scrub it down, and change the pool filter. benefits of salt water pool

Here are the major pros to consider:

They are Much More Gentle

Some of the worst parts of swimming in chlorinated pools is that they can leave your eyes red and your skin itchy. That is primarily due to the high levels of chlorine in the water. Because chlorine levels in the water are much lower in saltwater pools, you do not have to worry about that.

Highly Cost Effective

While they are most expensive upfront to install compared to chlorinated water, they are actually far cheaper over the lifespan of the pool contractor Miami thanks to the fact that you don’t have to worry about buying pool chemicals on a regular basis.

Soft and Calming Water

Unlike the abrasive water you will have to deal with in a chlorinated pool, saltwater pools have water that is soft and smooth like a lake or ocean’s bay. It is incredibly calming and restorative.

Here are the major cons to consider:

More Complex

While chlorinated pools allow you to not worry about any major sanitation issue, a sanitation issue in a saltwater pool may require the assistance of a professional technician. This can be timely and expensive.

They are More Expensive Overall

As previously mentioned, saltwater pools are a major financial investment that will ultimately pay off overtime but will be more expensive in the short term. A hefty starting price will likely turn some people who are otherwise interested in a saltwater pool off. With that being said, as the years go by, you will see that investment come back to you at reduced prices. While upkeep during the summer months will costs an owner around $20-$30 for the entire season, owners of chlorinated pools end up spending around twice that each and every month!
